I've Got Nothin'

Greetings:

So, you ever have one of those weeks where you just can't think of anything???  Zip, nada, zilch, nothin'!!!  Well, welcome to my world, that would be Slu's World, this week.  Running on empty...

source
Now, given my situation, I could not help but think of the Seinfeld TV Show.  I looked this up.  Seinfeld ran for 9 seasons, from July 1989, through May 1998.  For most of that time, it was one of the highest, if not the highest, rated TV Shows each year.  And my point is...  I remember hearing on the show, and Wikipedia confirmed it with this quote regarding the Theme:  That it is "Often described as being about NOTHING."

I'm thinking that puts me in pretty "high cotton."  He had a show about nothin' for 9 years and I'm just talking about one stinkin' week!!!

Further...  I looked up Writer's Block (Ha!!!).  Wikipedia describes this common occurrence as:  Writer's block is a condition, in which an author loses the ability to produce new work. The condition varies widely in intensity.  So, there ya go.  This week, I've Got Nothin'.

Be Safe, Be Smart, and Always Smile...

Just for grins, I want to touch on my little saying that I always end with.  With Texas sized love (I Hope), a friend commented this week on my "be safe, be smart" by saying that was "No Fun."  LOL...  She's probably right.  But, it got me to thinking about why I say that each week, and have been for years...

It's Shane's Fault!!!

As my youngest son, Shane, was hitting his teenage years, we had a close enough relationship that we could talk about anything.  Almost more than anything else, I wanted him to just get through his teenage years unscathed, if you will.  There was so much going on all around that I remember every time we talked, I would tell him...  Dude, just be safe and be smart.  I emphasized the smart!!!  I just wanted him to think every thing through.  And I wanted him to be safe in the process.  And that's where that came from.  The smile???  Heck, I tell everybody that.  And my man Shane today???  Well, now 21 and entering his last year of College, he's doing OK, if I may say so.  Pops is pretty dang happy.

On Father's Day...  Yeah, I'm Smiling!!!
Takin' it "To the House"

MusicSo, this week, I want to share a tune I like a lot from Audioslave.  from 2005, Be Yourself.  Enjoy...  (source)

MarketwatchA crazy day yesterday...  Catch Up Day, if you will.  The Dow closed yesterday at a record high:  15,460.92, while Facebook had a day too, closing up at 25.81, slowly, but surely, inching its way back to "even."  That would be 38!!!

The EndSo, the end of nothin'.  Ha...  I appreciate you stopping by and hope to see you back on Tuesday for Mix Tape.  Til then...  (for you C-A-N)

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  3. The "I've Got Nothin' " must be going around the internet because I know tons of bloggers who say they are missing their muse lately. That's why I did an old repost last week while I was on vacation---too busy hiking and drinking some fine wine to worry about blogging. Trying to get back on track now, though. Be patient--I'm sure something will come to you. Have a few libations this weekend and stir up some fun! Love the photo, and yes, your son looks like your twin!

  4. Oh Slu my man, I totally know what you mean by running on empty. If you don't get zapped by inspiration then it's zilch. Anyway, you still got to make a post out of it, so you're lucky mate. Love the photo of father and son, and I think you should be sending that hat in my direction. Good looking son, so keep you're eye out mate, if you know what I mean. IE: some of those women won't have no mercy..........

  5. I've been running on "I've got nothin'" for some time now. I wonder if it's cause it's summer. Just when I think it's time to quit blogging, something comes to me and I squeak out one more.

My son is entering his first year of college and every time he walks out the door I say "make good choices". Not sure if that says something about me or something about him, but we'll just leave that alone for now.

  7. Slu,
You do "nothing" pretty damn well, if I may say so. I love the photo of you and your son! And yeah, there are many weeks when I've got nothing. In fact, today's post was one of those. I wrote about 1000 words on why I'd change nothing from my past because why mess with me-now, re-read them this morning, realized it was crap writing, and then eeked out a lame post on why I'd change nothing. Guess we both wrote about nothing today, in our own ways! Congrats on your son turning out to be so awesomely awesome. Great advice. And I'm already worried about the teen years. Gah.

Your week of "nothing" still made for a great post; especially the part about your son.
I, like Karen, always say to my kids, "Be safe and make good choices!" Hey, I was a wild one!
Loved Seinfeld so much! I told you, I dance like Elaine. :)
I'm tipping my tea cup to you for a great new week.

  12. you and your son look very happy together . My son graduated from college last year . I spent most of his high school years in college years pretty much saying the same thing you did . I have to say it all worked outI i just perform the ceremony last year for he and his wife to be married. Pretty soon he'll be saying it to his own kids I suppose.
