Week 50... Say What? A Trophy to Vent?

Greetings:

OK...  Holy Smokes!!!  So, you're saying I can just let it all hang out???  You're saying I can "Rip a new one?"  You're saying I can "Lay the wood?"  Are you seriously telling me The Triumph Trophy has been passed over to Slu's World and it allows one to get it all off of your chest? To VENT???

Well, the answers, in order, are:  Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes!!!  Are you asking yourself, "What in the Heck is a Triumph Trophy???"  Ha...  I can tell you that it was created by Bloggers Karen @ Baking In A Tornado... and Kristy @ Black Sheep Mom...  It represents making it through the everyday "things" that might otherwise break us down.  And...  It allows the Recipient to Vent a little.  Now, who can relate to that???  Probably all of us???

Around two weeks ago, my friend Michele, over @ Follow Me Home..., nominated Slu's World for this Trophy.  She is the proud Recipient of the Trophy too.  I hope you will bounce right on over and check out her amazing Blog.  Thanks bunches for the "pass" Michele.  I absolutely accept, although, I am all about the Smile, all about Happy Friday, and about having a good time.  So, we'll see what comes from this.  In accepting the "Double T," one must do the following:

1...  Display the Trophy in your post:  See Above.

2...  Write a short piece that starts with this:  "I didn't kill beat up                today."  It doesn't have to be a person; it can be an appliance, a business, or anything else you choose.  OK...  See Below.

3...  Nominate a few people to pass the Trophy on to and let them know it is their turn to ventOr, in other words...  If you Blog, need to Vent, & need permission:  Grab this Trophy & tell 'em Slu sent ya!!!

So, "I didn't kill beat up Toby today early Tuesday morning."

Don't be Fooled by those Big Bug Eyes!!!  He's saying, "What's up SUCKAHS???

OK...  Recently, Toby has been sick.  In addition to being diagnosed a few weeks ago with a Thyroid condition (Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!), he was sick over the weekend due to, I believe, human food scraps dropped on the floor by Munchkin.  She spent the weekend with us.  Toby just cannot eat human food, albeit with one exception, and that would be sliced cheese.

A Little Background...

Toby is 9 years old now.  Prior to the Thyroid condition, I used to feed Toby just once a day, in the evenings, followed by a treat.  Every night before bed time, Toby and I would visit "poop-ville" and he would take care of his business.  Life was good!!!  However, since being diagnosed, he now has to take a pill TWICE a day for the rest of his life!!!  But he can't just take the pill as is.  And he was throwing up after each meal when he ate the pill with his food.  So, the Vet advised us to feed him his food, wait 10 minutes, and then break the pill in half, and "hide" each half of the pill in a fold-over of cheese.  Are you with me here???  For the Rest of His Life, I have to feed him FOUR times a day:  An early day meal, 10 minutes later he gets pills in a cheese blanket, an early evening meal, and 10 minutes later, he gets pills in a cheese blanket with a treat.  You absolutely have to understand that visits to "poop-ville" are now off the charts!!!  The whole "system" has been turned upside down.  And recently, and with Munchkin's crumbs help, "poop-ville" is suddenly an INDOOR location...  People, can you feel me here???  I have not even begun to VENT just yet!!!  Here we go...

Yep...  Eating yet again!!!  Grrrrrrrrrrr...

The Vent...

So, given that throughout the weekend, Toby was more than likely eating Munchkin's crumbs off of the floor, his tummy was in no mood for normal.  Which brings us to this past Monday night.  Donna and I went to bed around 11:15pm-ish.  My alarm was set for 4:00am.  Toby sleeps overnight in our bedroom in a crate (for potty reasons).  At 2:47am, Donna woke me and said, "Babe, Toby is whining."  That is code for:  "You need to get up and take him outside so he doesn't make a mess in here."  I looked at my clock and instantly thought:  1 hour and 13 minutes.  I laid there for a couple of minutes.  Donna got up and started to put her jammers on.  That is code for:  "You better get up, because if I have to take him out at this hour, there will be trouble."  So, I got up, used the restroom myself, and then let Toby out of his crate.  I walked to the front door with no "pep in my step" and not very happy.  Toby skipped to the door as if it were Christmas morning.  I opened the front door and Toby shot out of the apartment like it was on fire!!!  He headed straight to "poop-ville."  As I walked over to where he was, two cars slowly came around the corner.  It's 3:00am and two cars are moving about looking for a parking space.  And yes, there is an open space right there at my front door.  So, after several minutes, Toby completed his emergency business.  We started walking back toward our front door.  The two occupants of one of the vehicles  were just getting out of their car.  A young guy and a girl.  The next several minutes were spent on, "Oh, what a sweet dog.  Is he a Maltese?  He is so cute.  Good boy.  How old is he?  What's his name?"  Of course, Toby was eating this up.  In my head, my tired brain was thinking:  Holy Smokes!!!  The minutes are ticking away like seconds!!!  Once back inside, Donna was IN bed of course she was, Toby went back in his crate, and I eased back into bed with about 45 minutes left to sleep.  And in what seemed like 45 seconds, my alarm sounded.  Time to get up...  Today, Toby is still alive and breathing, and he seems to be better now, but earlier in the week, it was "touch & go."  His life seriously hung in the balance with me.  And Donna would probably say, "You better leave Toby aloneYou know he can't help it."  OK... Where's Munchkin???

In the past couple of weeks, there have been a few items on my "list" that I suppose I could have vented about...  Rising Health Insurance rates that have gone up yet again, a trip to the dreaded Dentist on Wednesday, and another reminder of why Texting and Driving is so dangerous (See Week 29... On My "Soap Box" for my concerns).    But in the end, the "Tobester" won out.  For all my recent aggravation though, you gotta love the "little guy."

Back to my friend Michele...  Her Triumph Trophy "Vent" Post can be found here...  It is an amazing, heartfelt piece and I truly hope you'll take 5 minutes and click on the Link for a good read.

Takin' it "To the House"

Recipe'sOK...  I'm SCREAMING!!!  You know, so you can "HEAR" me.  If you do anything in the next week, PLEASE try this AMAZING Salad Recipe.  I made this a few nights ago from a recipe that Donna came across on Facebook.  Instant #1 with a Bullet!!!  From Totally Recipes, search for the Spinach and Strawberry Avocado Salad.  You will absolutely find your Smile.  FYI:  I used Olive Oil.

MusicThis week, my Tune Selection is from Bob Marley and The Wailers.  I love his style of reggae.  My favorite tune right now is Jamming (source)...  Click on the Link, sit back, and enjoy this tune.

Market WatchThis week, the Dow continued it's crazy Climb upwards, closing yesterday at over 15,230Facebook however, was mired in a struggle to move in any direction, closing slightly down yesterday at 26.13.

The EndHoly Smokes!!!  Week 50 is in the books...  52 is right around the corner.  Thank You so much for stopping by Slu's World.  Much appreciated.  Hope to see you again next week.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  1. I have a small, 9 year old pomeranian that has also suddenly taken to using the living room as his poop place every night GRRR! So I feel your pain. Pretty funny though that you stood outside at 3:00 am carrying on a conversation with the neighbors! And P.S.--I make my Hubs get up and walk the dog, too!

  5. That is the cutest little face. It is funny how pets become part of the family. They except us for who we are. They don't care if you have money or status, as long as you feed and love them, they will be a friend all their life. Had a dashound for seventeen years, it was like losing one of my kids. Always love your post, look forward to next week. Cuz

  6. I had no idea one could win a trophy for venting. I should be wearing a championship ring with bling! I should have a trophy room filled to the brim with "venting trophies." Congrats!

I laughed out loud as I read your weekly blog. It was especially theraputic and I needed it. Sorry to laugh at your situation though. I feel bad that Toby has a thyroid condition. I have been taking thyroid pills myself for over 20 years. I never thought of wrapping them in a cheese fold over. You always have the best recipes!

Hang in ther big guy. You are entitled to blow off a little frustration, especially since Life is full of them. Vent away! Hugs to you and your precious Donna.

    1. Ha... Thanks so much. I needed that!!! My Donna just read it herself and she had a good laugh as well. What I was shooting for.

Don't feel bad... It happens and you deal with it. I soooo hope all is well in the Scott household after a rough month.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I will pass a hug over to my Donna. Have a great weekend, Slu

  8. Slu,
Very, very nice job on the vent, man! Poor Toby, Poor You. I must admit, if the dogs are up at night, Mark gets the "kick" in bed. That means, "Get up, you wanted these dogs!" Perhaps it was in the wedding vows; I can't remember. :) It is funny how we can do the math in our head in the middle of the night to figure out EXACTLY how much longer we have to sleep. Talent, Slu.
Thanks for accepting and rocking the award...And for sending your sweet CUZ to read and comment on my blog. Connections make me smile!
    Enjoy the weekend, you!

  9. Oh Slu, leave the lovely, beautiful, cuddly doggie alone. Look at those lovely eyes and coat. How could you rant about him. If I was him, I'd have you up every night, just for laughs of course :) and I'll keep spitting out my pills, ha ha ha. It's a shame he's so ill but I hope his conditions gets better. Congrats on getting the 'venting' TriumphTrophy. You did a good job of it with little cute Toby. Just send him over to me when you've had enough...

Nice choice in music for the whole weekend Slu. Bob Marley made some good tunes. Shame he's not around but his music will live on forever.
    Have a great weekend.

You know it was all in fun. Besides, if I sent Toby over to you, Donna would shoot me. I got Toby for her Birthday back in 2004. That's her "Baby." Ha!!! Thanks for the congrats...

Marley is my main Man right now... Really into his music for a bit.

Dude, Thanks so much for stopping by. Til next time, Slu

  10. He is so cute how could you vent off on him? I totally understand. Mine also has everyone duped. I have been MAKING dog food for four years. At 10 he developed stomach/colitis issues and could only eat turkey and ...wait for it...
duck. DUCK? C'mon. He's lucky to have made it to 14 this year. I adore him!

  11. Toby is adorable! But I totally understand... my dog Harry is getting pretty old himself and really starting to act his age. He only has two teeth left (!) and we have to be very careful with his diet, medications, and "business" needs.

I will DEFINITELY be trying the spinach, strawberry and avocado salad. I have some strawberry puree left from making my strawberry icing...maybe I can find a recipe for a strawberry vinaigrette!

  12. Aw, Toby is such a sweetie. Those eyes. I don't know if you noticed that I'm a pug person. Yep. I'm a total sucker for dogs. One of my pugs is 13 and she's started peeing in these two spots in - of all places - the dining room. I had to start using wee wee pads. She's pretty finicky about eating too. Hugs to Toby!

But, it is amazing to me now just how many people have commented on what they currently have to do with their older dog. It's really crazy, but they're Family, so you do what you have to.

  13. Hey Slu! Brand new visitor, and Toby sure is cute. I have a Daisy who is cute and trouble. She also CANNOT eat anything but dog food, but I have a bit of a trouble making 7yo. I might even call on your services, I write often about his fascination with fire. But I digress. I see you are a music lover, as am I.
