Greetings:
So yes, last Sunday, we celebrated. We had a party. And yes, we had lots of fun. Family and friends gathered at Lupe Tortilla's. The occasion??? Well, it was May 5th. Or, better known in Texas as Cinco de Mayo. So, we said... Let's Party!!! Or, it could be stated as: Vayamous de Fiesta.
Fun Facts...
According to about.com (source)... Cinco de Mayo is probably the holiday most often celebrated that no one understands. Literally "the Fifth of May," Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla,
which took place on May 5, 1862. In 1861, France sent a massive army to
invade Mexico, as they wanted to collect on some war debts. The French
army was much larger, better trained and equipped than the Mexicans
struggling to defend the road to Mexico City. It rolled through Mexico
until it reached Puebla, where the Mexicans made a valiant stand, and,
against all logic, won a huge victory. It was short-lived, as the French
army regrouped and continued; eventually taking Mexico City, but the
euphoria of an unlikely victory against overwhelming odds is remembered
every May 5th.
In Puebla and in many USA cities with large Mexican populations, there
are parades, dancing and festivals. Traditional Mexican food is often
served or sold. Mariachi bands fill town squares, and a lot of Dos Equis
and Corona beers are served (or, in our case: Margarita's). It’s a fun holiday, really more about
celebrating the Mexican way of life than about remembering a battle
which happened 150 years ago. It is sometimes referred to as a “Mexican
St. Patrick’s Day.”
And Then, There's Slu's Way...

Our Two Tickets to the "Party of the Year" |
OK, so, if one is going to the "Party of the Year," their words, not mine, you need a few things to start off on the right foot, if you will:
|
1st: You need to "Rock" a Brand Spanking New pair of Red Checkered Vans... |
|
2nd: You need a Smokin' Hot Date at your side to attend the "Party of the Year" |
|
3rd: You need a "Jammin' Convertible Ride" to escort your Hot Date to the "Party of the Year" |
So, Vayamous de Fiesta...
|
And through these doors... The "Party of the Year" (Es Preety Goood) |
|
Not a Dos Equis, not a Corona... Margarita's to start this Party!!! |
|
A little bit of Ribs & Fajita's, covered in Queso... Who needs Side Dishes??? |
|
Sami & John are Very Excited to be at the "Party of the Year" |
|
Steven & Kristen are Happy as well... Or: Kristen thinks Steven smells good & He knows it!!! |
|
The Band... Latino Music!!! |
|
Munchkin made herself very comfortable on the Dance Floor... |
|
And then found a couple of Friends to Dance with... |
|
And then found a Big Friend to Dance with... Actually, this lady came over and asked Munch to Dance. |
|
Later in the day, after many of these, Donna's Margarita donned a Sombrrrerrrooo... |
|
Munchkin grew a Mustache... |
|
And Sambo tried to out-do Donna's Margarita Glass |
|
And then, John got caught up in the whole "Sombrrrerrro Thing" with his Dos Equis... |
|
And yet, another Stephen (the 3rd one in our group) showed up... |
|
The "Corona Girls" showed up & posed at the table next to us... We just wanted the Freebies!!! |
|
Sister Act... Lauren showed up late in the Day and posed with her Lil Sis, Sambo |
|
The Day, fading away... But the Band "Played On" |
Well, to be honest, a lot of fun was had... but, "Party of the Year?" Not so much!!! You can't ever go wrong whenever there is good food, awesome Libations, Family, Friends, and good music. But we have 7 months to go to find another, maybe better, "Party of the Year." We are always in pursuit of a good party and good times.
Takin' it "To the House"
Music: You just know, that in honor of Cinco de Mayo, this weeks tune selection is right in line with the "theme of the day." To celebrate our beloved "Margarita," here is a tune to keep you in the mood. From 1958, The Champs with the Tequila Song... (source). I hope you'll give it a listen.
Market Watch: A Rock Solid week for the Dow, as it climbed to over 15,080 at the close yesterday. Wow!!! Facebook inched backwards a bit, closing yesterday at 27.05.
The End: Another one in the books... Getting closer to 52. I appreciate you stopping by. Thank You very much!!! Hope to see you back next week. Til then...
Be safe, be smart, and always Smile... It's "Happy Friday"

ReplyDeleteHa... No prob. Just glad you stopped by. Take care.
DeleteLook forward to your blog each week. Keep up the good work. Now for your mom. I always thought your mom was so kind. Everyone knew how pretty she was. Vickie favors her a lot. When she came out to Dad's funeral, her steering wheel locked up and we helped her get on her way. She was so appreciative and kind as usual. That was the last time I saw her. I miss them all. Cuz
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words cuz... She loved our Family so much. But after Dad was gone, it was hard on her because they had been together for so long. I really appreciate your words here...
DeleteThanks for stopping by. Have a great week. Happy Mother's Day, cuz
That's the way to do it Slu. Get everyone involved and party hard. Looks as if you all had a lovely time and you don't need a reason to 'get down'. Just some music, food, drink and of course, the dancing shoes with a great jeep to get you all back safe, tired but happy. Great photos :)
ReplyDeleteMy Man RPD... You got it!!! I'm down, Ha.
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by, Slu
Have a great week. Looking forward to your next "Mind-Bender."
YES! I was just about to say - it's the holiday no one understands. haha It's like the party holiday, but it's all about Mexican Independence. Did you see the hilarious bit about that on The Daily Show? It was stellar. Anyway, looks like you had a great time and those frozen margaritas look amazing. And now I've got Slim Whitman's "Viya con dios" in my head. Thank you. LOL
ReplyDeleteHa!!! It's all good: Smiling...
