Week 42... Spring (Break) Cleaning, Etc.

Greetings:

Break...  What Break???  So, yes, I am on my "9" Day Break (Day 7) and I am starting to think that I should go back to work so I can take it easy, so I can relax just a bit.  Who knew being off work would be so much work???  Yikes!!!

So, my plan going in was to clean out all 3 of my garages:  Donna's, Mine, and our Storage Space.  Additionally, I planned on cleaning the very small patio, trimming, and replacing any plants that might need it.  And finally, I was going to tackle our Kitchen Pantry.  Changing over to a "Gluten Free" diet means some lots of things are just "going to have to go."  I was also going to start my "new" regimen of Power Walking and light lifting to get some exercise in each week.

Scoreboard...

Donna's Garage:  Check

Patio:  Check

Pantry:  Check

Walking & Lifting:  Check

My Garage:  Ain't Happening Just Yet

Storage Garage:  Ain't Happening Just Yet

Donna'a Garage:  The "BEFORE"
The "Sweep Up"
Donna's Garage:  The "AFTER"
Our Pantry:  The "BEFORE"
Our Pantry:  The "AFTER"
The Storage Garage:  Took One Look & Thought...  Not Happening!!!
So, I "check" in at the end of the week at 66%...  When you add in running daily errands, grocery shopping, preparing lunch and dinner and Facebook & Pinterest time, I'll take 66% and be happy about it.  And today...  Donna is off and says:  "Let's go shopping at IKEA."  Now, I'm down with that because I know it is also Code for "Let's eat out somewhere," which in-and-of-itself is Code for "Libations."  A good way to end the week.  Just sayin'.

Ain't No More Wheat
(say it ain't so)

Pretty much week 2 is in the books on this new lifestyle and I'm going to list just a couple of the dinners I cooked this week and show you that this Gluten Free thing ain't really so bad...  Tuesday night, I made Baked Salmon, from foodpinsnow, wrapped tightly in foil on top of sliced lemons and topped with a slice of butter, salt & pepper.  Close to being the best Salmon I've ever eaten.  To go with it, I made Mozzarella, Tomato, & Avocado Salad, from ValSoCal at Everything Fabulous, and it was amazing.  A glass of wine as well and it was a very nice dinner.

Last night, I made Holy Yum Chicken, from Julie at Table for Two.  I had Slu's Potatoes on the side.  You can click on the Link and see hers and compare it to a pic of mine below...

Very happy with how this came out...  Amazing taste!!!
The Recipe's for these and more can be found on the links above, or on my Pinterest Board:  "Ain't No Gluten Here."  Check them out.

I just have to share two pics that I came across this week, one on Pinterest, the other on Facebook.  Each time I see them, I actually Laugh Out Loud!!!

From Pinterest:  Just Too Funny!!!
From Facebook:  Cracks me up every time I see it...

MusicThis week's selection coincides not only with the end of Spring Break, but equally, with the end of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo...  Give a listen to Garth Brooks and one of the coolest songs ever:  Friends In Low Places.

Market Watch:  This week, the Market is moving up yet again, closing yesterday at over 14,500 and Facebook is standing still, closing yesterday at 27.04.

The EndAnother week is in the books.  Thank You!!!  I appreciate you stopping by and hope to see you back next week.  Til then, have a great weekend.

Be safe, be smart, and always smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  4. Oh the first couple of photos of your version of tidying up was hilarious but I noticed the storage area was a bit too much for you, ha ha ha. Maybe you can get it done next time or should I say, attempt to move one thing, ha ha ha.

Funny enough whenever you have time off work you end up going back knackered and exhausted. I say, only have a few days here and there. A little work, a little play, all in moderation.

Loved the chicken picture with Pete, it cracked me right up, ha ha ha. And it seems that Pete's other mate was on your dinner plate as Holy Yum chicken :)

    1. Hey Buddy... You know: It looked like more in person than in the pics (Ha!!!). The storage space: I just thought to myself... another day.

The chicken pic: I absolutely crack up when I look at it. I just can see him saying that and it makes me laugh out loud.

      Thanks for checking in, Slu

  5. funny because part of my spring break will also be spent cleaning out parts of the house! Good luck with everything! I think 66% is great. Reminds me of a quote I recently heard: strive for perfection, settle for good enough. I think it's great to recognize that progress is progress and at the end of the day it's important to just be happy.

  6. I took one look at that storage garage and I ran away. WAY too much work. I think you got a very lot accomplished for a guy on vacation. I'm pretty sure your definition of vacation and my definition of vacation are two different things.

    1. Ha... I should convey that most of the week, I was "Home Alone" as Donna was working most of it. Otherwise, our "vacation" ideas may be more closely aligned. (like maybe owning an island)

  7. I usually start at the beginning of your post, but let me just say, that chicken dish looks AMAZING. Yum.! I also, shamelessly, love the libations shelf. Who needs gluten with that?

Donna's garage before pic looks better than any of my "after" pics. Way to go!

I always say we need a vacation AFTER our vacations. 66% completed ANYTHING is great on a "break".

Off to find my Garth Brooks fix.....or should I run to IKEA? Both sound great.

Happy Monday (better late than never), SLu!

    1. Double M: If you do anything, you should try that Chicken recipe... Holy Smokes!!!

Ha... By cleaning the pantry, I was also able to put away some "things" that usually sit out on counter-tops.

I feel good about everything and IKEA was fun... except the part where I had to put together a shelf unit and door for Donna for her salon, but her and munchkin cheered me on. :-)

      Thanks for checking in, Slu

    1. Double M (#2)... What is funny is I am an "organizer" as well and the kids just keep piling it in there because we have "space." And I finally just say, WTH... Looked at it and said... Nah!!!

The funny pics: I just LOVE them!!! Ha...
