It's Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday... (80's)

Hey Yo:

Oops!!!  Late to the party...  Been in an intense Training Class through the weekend and finally finished late yesterday.  Very successful, but enough of that...  Time for Tunes!!!

Another week, another Decade, as this week, for our Mix Tape, we stroll right into the 80's...  Our "Hostess with the Mostess," Jen, over @ My Skewed View..., is the Brainchild of this FUN Walk Down Memory Lane.  Her Co-Host is Kristi, over @ Finding Ninee... and on their sites, you'll find ALL the other participants and LOTS of excellent music choices.

So, bring on the 80's, get your Smile On, and let's get this party started with some Rock & Roll...

#1:  First up on my list, with a little background...  With much Love & Affection, I have always called my Beautiful Little Bride "Woman."  Many years we ago, we went to a Borders Book Store Exhibit of John Lennon's Material, presented by Yoko Ono.  Among the various things that caught our eye(s) was a Hand Written Lyric Lithograph of John's Woman.  For our next Anniversary, I bought that Lithograph from the Art Gallery (they were very proud $$$ of it) and today, it hangs on our wall.  Fortunately,  the value since then has almost quadrupled...

For my "Woman"
My 80's list has to start with John Lennon's song, Woman, that was released shortly after his death in December of 1980 on the Double Fantasy Album.  Enjoy...  (source)

#2:  Next up...  Just "Too Cool" of a tune.  From 1981, The Stray Cats with their Stray Cat Strut.  Enjoy...  (source)

#3:  Again, from 1981, I always liked this song and its gentle beat.  Squeeze and their tune, Tempted.  Enjoy...  (source)

#4:  Next up...  Although this is a cover of the original Tommy James version, if you were in any Club in the late 80's, you heard this tune many times.  From 1987, Billy Idol with his version of Mony Mony.  Enjoy...  (source)

#5:  I have always liked this next tune.  Just one of those songs that when you hear it, you want to "move."  Ha...  From 1980, The Romantics with What I Like About You.  Enjoy...  (source)

#6:  And finally, for my "Walk Off Home Run," from 1987, U2 and their Where the Streets Have No Name.  Just love the 1 minute, 40 second intro.  Enjoy...  (source)

And that's my List!!!  Hope you enjoyed as much as I did.  Remember to head over to Jen's for Mix Tape 14 @ My Skewed View...  Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see ya back on Happy Friday.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday"

 adios...  vaya con dios

  1. #1 - Cool people put Stray Cat Strut on their list.
#2 - Chuck E. Cheese ruined "What I Like About You" for me. I had to dance to that song in a stupid rat costume every single day during the summer of '92. Ugh. And I STILL remember the dance.

*sorry, inappropriate cross-Comment laughter at Tracy's Comment...about dancing in a rat costume. I should find some literay allusion involving Kafka but the visual (plus the audio that you have been considerate enough to provide all of us)... just makes me think, 'damn, I love the blogopshere!'

good list too! 'specially 'the Romantics'

  5. I had so many comments to make about your fantastic choices that all completely drained out of my mind to make way for a dancing rat.

I had considered three of your choices for my list as well, but the memories attached weren't as significant as the ones I chose. But I love Stray Cats (and still love Brian Setzer's stuff). The Romantics and Billy Idols are amazing too.

I think your Woman story is the best of the week though.

  7. Slu this list is awesome! Totally un-expected. Don't ask me what I expected, but it wasn't this. Woman, I remember my dad loved that song so much. I wasn't really ever into John Lennon, but I appreciate it so much now. Tempted was going to be on my 90's list, because that's when I really started listening to Squeeze, but I'm gonna pick some other fabu Squeeze song instead. Thanks for bringing this awesome list!

  12. Slu,
You KNOW the happy tears came out with your "Woman" story; what an excellent song, too.
Where did the Stray Cats go? I must have watched that video a million times during the MTV heydays...
The Romantics and Billy Idol remind me those sweaty high school dances.
U2? The Joshua Tree was one of the best albums, ever.
    Great List, man.
