Week 28... Cha Cha Cha!!!

Greetings:

Holy Smokes!!!  This week, I'm going out "on a limb," maybe even a "twig."  I'm already about 20 pounds overweight there, I said it!!!, so I'm on very shaky "ground," so to speak, up on that limb.  So, what follows (it is the Christmas Season you know), is my PROMISE, in front of the whole World Wide Web, to my "Little Bride."  Ok, you're going to have to keep reading...

My "Music" spot below is obviously out of place, being way up here and not way down there.  But there is a reason and you just have to hang in there with me for a bit.

MusicThis week, my list of Christmas Fave's continues with a couple of different variations of one song...  Now, everytime I hear this song, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," I always imagine Donna looking right into my eyes and singing it to me.  You know, she's telling me, "Baby, I don't need anything for Christmas, I just want you."  And that just makes my day  Now, as she reads this, she will surely feel a little "throw up" come up in her throat, as she clearly thinks:  "IN - YOUR - DREAMS!!!"  Not that she would not want to be with me, but, you know, all women want something for Christmas.  So, give a listen to these two songs...  1st, the original from Vince Vance and the Valiants and the 2nd, a more recent version from Mariah Carey

Now, for this Christmas, we have already given each other our "gifts" in that the weekend just prior to Christmas, we are staying the weekend at the Westin Galleria Hotel to chill and shop (mostly window) and relax and party just a bit and we plan on having a lot of fun while there.  But, there has to be more, right???

OK, so how does the "song" come into play???  I referenced the song(s) because although I imagine her saying "All I want for Christmas is you," (yeah, right) I want her to know that while this is not a "material" gift, I know this will mean a whole lot more than most material gifts, knowing her like I do...  Now, I'm not so much the "FOOL" that I don't know she would absolutely  prefer the Pave Diamond Ring she has been wanting, rather than what I'm offering, but what I'm offering is way up there.  The ring is coming in due time.  But, until then...

You see, plain and simple, I can't dance.  And Donna wants to dance!!!  Oh, I can dance some would argue that, I just can't dance.  Does that make any sense???  I'm the guy that goes out on the dance floor and immediately feels every single eye in the joint looking straight at me.  And then I see the smiles and laughter (real or imagined)...  You just know they're all saying:  OMG!!!  Check this guy out, what was he thinking, are you kidding me, wow...  and on and on and on.  You know the type:  Kinda stiff (woody), just a little out of whack OK, not as bad as Elaine on Seinfeld, but you get the idea.

Each year, here in the Houston area, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo takes place in Reliant Stadium.  It's a huge annual event.  There are live bands and such, and afterwards, there are areas where there is dancing to some of the "up & comer" bands.  Several years ago, we were planning on going to one of the shows.  I knew we would find one of those "areas" afterwards and catch a band playing.  I knew Donna would want to dance.  So, in the weeks leading up to it, I had my working partner at the time, Boom-Boom, teach me how to dance Country & Western so I could surprise Donna at the Rodeo.  So, are you diggin' that visual???  Two dudes at work, practicing Country & Western dancing.  And doing it over and over.  Ha!!!  But, you know what...  I did surprise her and it worked on some small scale that night.  But, if you "don't use it, you lose it."  So, what I learned way back then has "left the building."

So, Merry Christmas

Over the years, I have "promised" Donna that we would take Dancing Lessons a ga-zillion times.  We never have.  So, here today, I am using this forum to loudly PROCLAIM:  I am going to learn how to dance.  To really dance.  Heck, I might even finally lose that extra 20 pounds in the process.  Now, I don't think ABC will be calling with an invite to join their show in primetime...

This might be a little over the top!!!
...and "Fred & Ginger" probably don't have anything to worry about, but I'm going to give it my very best shot.

So, to quote Kevin Bacon from a movie way back when, I say to my "Little Bride," once and for all, unequivocally:   "Let's Dance!!!" (after I learn how)

"Let's Dance"

Photos:  Here are a few Photos that I took this week while out and about...

Houston Texans FootballThis week is the "Biggie."  Monday Night Football...  The 11 & 1 Texans are on the road to play at the 9 & 3 New England Patriots.  Super stoked for this one.  With last weeks win, the Texans are back in the playoffs for the second straight year.

Libations Anyone???This week, while we are in the Holiday mood, you can never go wrong with a good Egg Nog...  And this one is just plain old really good & really easy:  I'm talking about Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog, ready to go and poured straight from the bottle:  Blended whiskey, rum, and brandy, blended with real dairy cream.  Serve really cold and add a touch of ground nut-meg and you will absolutely find your smile!!!  I promise...

Market Watch:  Not a lot of movement from last week to this week.  Facebook closed yesterday at 26.97, slipping just ever so slightly downward.

The End:  Thanks for checking in this week.  I really appreciate it.  I hope to see you back next week for more of Slu's World.

Be safe, be smart, and always smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  1. Hey Slu,

I randomly ran across your post on craigslist! And I am so glad I did.

Yesterday I went through a violent altercation with my ex. So today reading your blog and seeing Be safe, be smart, and always smile... It's "Happy Friday" I know that there is a plan for me and everything will be ok in my Webster, Tx world.

Thank you and see you next week!

  2. I think your holiday plans sound fabulous. I organize a lot of corporate events at the Westin, and it is a very nice place to stay. Sounds like a romantic holiday time for you and Donna. If you all want a nice lunch while at the Mall, go to Nordstom's Cafe (level 3). If you like salmon, they have a wonderful dish served with roasted potatoes and green beans. Get the salsa on the side. They offer a number of nice adult beverages too.

Now for the dancing lessons...oh yeah, that is totally sexy.

I hope you have a great weekend. I can't wait for our Texans to win on Monday night. Feeling confident!

    Have fun this weekend.
    Donna S.
