Week 27... They're Back!!!

Greetings:

Well, two weeks ago, I celebrated 6 Months of Blogging and promptly gave myself a week off.  My "mini-vaca" has come and gone and it is time to "get going again."  And this week, as my title suggests...  it's the Holiday Season and we had a very welcome visit from afar.  Thanksgiving has now come and gone as well, and what follows are a few thoughts and pics for the "week that was," and what's coming up.

Thanksgiving

OK, I was a total "slacker" and did not take any pictures on Thanksgiving Day of all the food preparation, so you will just have to go along with my "verbal visual."

Donna has a sister and each Thanksgiving, we all go to her house for family time, food, and football how about those Texans!!!.  They cook the turkey and dressing.  We bring the sides.  It's pretty much the same routine every year.  Donna prepares the sweet potatoes and green beans.  I make my specialty, "Slu's Mashed Potatoes."  This year, I added a chocolate pie.  Donna's mom (she does the deviled eggs) conveyed to her that I needed to make "gobs & gobs" of mashed potatoes because they're so good.  Well, I know I made "gobs & gobs" because at the end of the day when everybody was leaving, I saw "gobs & gobs" of mashed potatoes leaving on "to go" plates.  Not that they were so great they were, it was literally because I did indeed make "gobs & gobs."  But here's the kicker...  all those potatoes and all that turkey???  You have to have gravy, right?  Somebody did not make the gravy!!!  I looked everywhere.  There was no gravy.  Fumble!!!  I'm just sayin'.

A Visit From New York

My oldest son, his wife, and their one year old son, flew to Texas from New York to visit for a few days with his mom and her family and our family as well.  For us, it was our first time with just turned 1 baby George, or "Little Man."

Justin, Courtney, & runny nose "Little Man"

Little Man & Toby getting acquainted...
In the short time they were here, we crammed a lot in.  A trip to the local park for baby George to hang out.  A quick trip to Fox Den Surf & Skate for a meet & greet with the other kids.  Krogering for some viddels (grilled burgers).

"Little Man" getting his Slide in...  (Check out the Father/Son Vans: Ha!!!)

The Puzzle

And then, there was "The Puzzle."  About two to three weeks ago, I thought it would be a good idea and fun to get a puzzle to put together.  So, I went shopping for a puzzle.  I picked out a 1,000 piece puzzle of a farm house out in the country around a bunch of trees and some water.  It certainly didn't look too difficult.  Wow!!!

Out of the Box and ready to...  Need a bigger table!!!
After I put the border together, not much else got done until help arrived:

Helpers...  The "We'll knock this out tonight" gave way to, "Wow, not happening tonight."

 The Three Amigos (2012 Version)
A very Proud Dad and his two boys...

Back to the Puzzle...

A little work each night (and a little help) has gotten me this far...  Slowly but surely.

Powerball

Wednesday night included a $580,000,000 Powerball drawing.  So, you gotta buy tickets, right???  As you may have heard, there were two winners.  I was not one of them.  In addition to the "main" jackpot winners, there were another 8,924,123 (almost 9 million) winners of a lesser amount.  I was not one of them.  In fact, I only got one number right:  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Winning Numbers:  5-16-22-23-29 PB 6...  As you can see, I had #22

Christmas is Right Around the Corner

I went to the grocery store a few nights ago and as I walked up to the front door, I was met with my first "aroma" or "smell" of this Holiday Season of fresh cut Christmas Trees...  is there any better 1st smell during the Holiday Season???

Nice to walk by and smell, BUT...
I'll take a tree in a box everytime...
No sticky tree sap, no tree needles on the floor, no water feeding, and no disposal worries.  Trees in boxes.  Works for me.

Houston Texans Football:  Holy Smokes!!!  Back to back "barn burners" in 5 days.  1st, a 43 to 37 Overtime Win over the Jacksonville Jaguars two weeks ago and then on Thanksgiving Day, a 34 to 31 Overtime Win against the Detroit Lions.  It adds up to a 10 & 1 record.  this week, the Texans travel to Tennessee to play the 4 & 7 Titans.

Music:  During this Holiday Season, I'll pick out some of my favorite Christmas Songs and post one each week.  This week, one of my fave's is from 1957.  Sung by Bobby Helms, give a listen to this classic:  Jingle Bell Rock

Market Watch:  After two weeks, Facebook is on the "upswing," closing yesterday at 27.32...  A significant move considering where it has been for a while.

The EndLet's get this party started!!!  Let's do another 6 Months!!!  As always, I appreciate you taking the time to stop by Slu's World.  I hope you will check back next week.  Until then...

Be safe, be smart, and always smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  1. Is sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving holiday. Can't believe there was no turkey gravy. I can just see your face...searching, searching...NO Gravy! Ha! I got some help with mine thanks to the good people at William and Sonoma. They have a turkey gravy starter that is beyond good and always sells out fast. Loved the family pictures too. Baby George is beautiful. I know you are in love with your little man.

I want to see your tree all decorated, so you will have to post some pics of it. I will do the same. We can share Christmas via FB and your excellent blog. Can't wait till football Sunday! Have a great week.

  3. Hey-O!
No gravy? That's a small payback from your Michigan friend, who did indeed have gravy (and in-laws) and lost a nail biter to some wondrous team in Texas. Haha. Seriously, you guys rock this year.
    George is adorable.
I wanted very badly to play the Powerball, but alas, couldn't find the time to drive to the nearest gambling state. Maybe next time.
I know why we're bloggy friends. I love a good 1000+ piece puzzle AND pre-lit trees out of a box. Utah is dry All the way around, man!
    Good Luck tomorrow, Slu!

    1. Ha!!! No gravy sucks when you are a gravy freak!!! Seriously rooting for the Lions tomorrow: I think they are playing the Colts.

Holding George was awesome... Powerball sucked.

I'm getting into this puzzle. Will show a completed pic.

      Thanks for checking in... slu

  4. I love a big holiday puzzle! Do you give each piece an unnecessary victory tap once you find its home? Drives my brother-in-law bonkers!

  5. What a wonderful, heart warming post! Love it. Sounds like you had a great time with your family and the pictures are awesome--love the one of you with your sons. The puzzle? Not so awesome. I hate puzzles and avoid them at all costs. You had me at "gobs and gobs" of mashed potatoes until you said there was no gravy--say WHAT???? Impossible!!! Next year Slu, YOU are in charge of the gravy! Lol! Thanks for sharing such a warm post!
