It's Twisted Mix Tape Tuseday (Not Usually On My List)

Hey Yo:

So, I am back from the dead being too busy to participate the last couple of weeks.  And this makes me happy, because I love participating in these Mix Tape Tuesday's.  But, wouldn't you know that on my return, the 'Marching Orders' are to Mix music that you would not normally listen to, or something along those lines.  Should be interesting.  My question is this:  If I don't listen to it, do I pick the very worst of what I don't listen to, or something just barely over the 'line' of what I would not listen to???  You know, just on that other side of 'would not make my list.'  Not normally a 'Country' guy, but there are some tunes I will listen to, some that I like.  Or, this could be very simple:  Can you say DISCO???  Because I sincerely dislike Disco, but I'll admit that there are a few disco tunes out there that I kinda dig 'the beat' to.  Hang in there...

Our "Hostess with the Mostess" is Jen, from My Skewed View...  And as usual, Jen's Co-Pilot is Kristi, from Finding Ninee...  This is Mix Tape # 29.  I hope you'll click on their Links and listen to a variety of music.  It's what this is all about.  Let's get this party started.

#1:  Let's get Disco out of the way right here at the top...  With a catchy little beat, here is Kylie Minogue with Can't Get You Out of My Head.  Enjoy (I think)...  (source)

And Now...  Some Country (Or Close to It)

#2:  We'll ease into what is played on Country Stations around the "Country."  First up, some Lady Antebellum with Need You Now.  Enjoy...  (source)

#3:  How about some Tim McGraw???  Grown Men Don't Cry (yes they do).  Enjoy...  (source

#4:  Now, next up is a tune that applies to us 'Older Guys.'  Gotta laugh with us on this one.  Toby Keith with As Good As I Once Was.  Enjoy...  (source)

#5:  For the 'Blue Collar' guy (& gals) out there...  I've got to have this next one on the List.  Garth Brooks with Friends In Low Places.  Enjoy...  (source)

#6:  I heard this final tune right after I met Donna.  It truly touched my heart.  I leave you with Martina McBride.  Simply...  There You Are.  I hope you'll hear this one til the end.  Enjoy...  (source)

Wow!!!  That was fun.  I hope you enjoyed as well.  It's in the books.  Hope to see ya back on Happy Friday.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always show your Smile...  It's Mix Tape Tuesday

  2. Like Linda said, but its all different kinds of country! If I had gone with some more recent country, that particular Garth Brooks would have made my list. Great list Slu!

  3. So happy to find Toby Keith on a country list - yay! Nothing I dislike about him. Not a country fan, but I admit we have three of his albums - and my 4-year-old sings along happily to Red Solo Cup. Such a fun artist.

Have to say Lady Antebellum doesn't really do it for me and I'm always a bit Meh re: Kylie Minogue (although she did a tribute to Marilyn Monroe once which I thought was pretty awesome). But aside from that, loved the rest. And yes, the Martina McBride song is beautiful.

  4. (yeah Linda said it for me... 'the country' seems to be the go-to genre this week.)

Liked your choices for the country music, I cannot claim to 'know' the genre, but from what I hear Garth was not such a hit with the die hard traditionalists...I really liked the idea of taking the style and 'opening it to a wider audience. In fact, I listen to a popular country music station in the car and, damn, if I don't hear Marshall amps and and Les Pauls in a lot of the songs today.

  6. What I find remarkable is how many really don't listen to country to begin with! lol No, I'm not an expert in it, but I guess having transplanted to Kentucky for 20 years some of it has rubbed off on me. But, Kylie Minogue? I will admit to fantasizing about her some 15 years ago or so, but I guess older women appeal to some. :) Seriously, you picked some winners here, even though I still can't listen to Toby Keith without cringing. Good Stuff!

  11. I had the exact same song by Lady Antebellum on my list today too! Great minds think alike! Also, I'll always have a special place in my heart for Garth. Once, on a drunken girls weekend in Tybee, I tried to sing Friends in Low Places in karaoke. I sucked so badly that the DJ guy came up and sung it with me on stage. Ah, Garth...
