It's Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday (90's - Part 2)

Hey Yo:

So, this week, we conclude our time in the 90's with a Part 2 segment.  Each week, our "Hostess with the Mostess" is Jen over @ My Skewed View...  Her Co-Host is Kristi over @ Finding Ninee...  You should really click on their Links to hear ALL the other Participants that have some awesome tunes as well.

I was Born, Raised, and still live, in Texas...  And therefore, that is my Theme for this week.  Music from Texas Artist's, which may will include some Country Tune's.  But that's OK.  Although not a "Country" guy, its influence is strong in this area.  My wife is a Country Music lover.  I am supposed to be learning how to BETTER dance to Country & Western music for her!!!  Slowly, but surely going to get there.  So, don't run off, don't be scared of some Country Music.  HANG with me.  I think this List is still a strong List...

#1:  Born in the Houston area, this Tune was released in 1999.  Lyle Lovitt with That's Right You're Not From Texas.  Enjoy...  (source)

#2:  Although not born in Texas, Clint Black was living in Texas and was raised in Houston since before he was 1 year old.  So, he counts in my book as a Texan.  The tune I selected, from 1997, has great meaning with my wife, as it deals with marriage and commitment and she truly loves the Lyrics.  Something That We Do.  Enjoy...  (source)

#3:  I'm gonna hit up that "90's & Before" for this next Tune selection.  Born in Houston as well, before Kenny Rogers was Country Kenny Rogers, he sang with the First Edition.  From 1968, One of their best known songs was (I Just Dropped In To See) What Condition My Condition Was In.  Enjoy...  (source)

#4:  From Vidor, Texas (90 minutes from Houston), and released in 1996, Clay Walker with Hypnotize the Moon.  Enjoy...  (source)

#5:  Born in the Hill Country of Texas and known as the "King Of Country," George Strait with a hit released in 1997, Carrying Your Love With Me.  Enjoy...  (source)

OK...  A little different from my normal type of list.  But, this one was fun because my wife helped.  She had a lot of input.  So, there ya go.  Again, please visit Jen's over @ My Skewed View... for Mix Tape 17 and some really great music.

Hope to see ya back on Happy Friday.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  1. match on the Lyle!

    Country emergent decade, no?

(This is a time of change for country music, a change that not all fans of the genre may not have approved of, I suspect. But there is always an element of convergence, in all of the arts, and I would submit that having a Marshall stack next to the Fenders is not the worst thing that could happen.)

  2. Good choices on the country music, especially the George Strait. I spent many nights closing down the bar and dancing with "cowboys" to that song.

  3. I'm not a country music fan so I don't know any of those songs, but I will say that Mr. Walker is easy on the eyes.

  4. I love this list Slu! My list was a Lyle Fest! You're Not From Texas is my son's themes song, he was born in Carrollton outside of Dallas, so I always tell him how lucky he is to be a "real" Texan!
Great theme! I like your choices, especially Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, we listen to that a lot hear too. At first I though you might do Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town, love that too, because... you know, great lyrics :-) Rock on!

    2. My son is adopted. So he was born there, but we were only there for two weeks, 3 days prior to his birth and 2 weeks after before the state of Texas would let us leave. It was a brand new hospital and it seemed like Carrollton was going through a lot of changes!
I am taking him to see Lyle Aug 23, I think it's time for him to hear his anthem in person!

  8. Look at you dropping all that Texas knowledge on us. LOL
I don't listen to a lot of country but I do love Clint Black. I also remember Kenny Rogers
and the leisure suits on the cover of The First Editions' album.
These are so fun to read, Slu
    :)
