Really Big Mercedes Benz Emblems...

Greetings:

So, this week, I just have to explain and hopefully convey to you what I saw last week while driving to and from Lubbock.  It was actually incredible.  And I was given a "heads up" by a fellow Friend/Blogger (a CrazyAsNormal fellow Texan), soon after I posted Last Friday's Blog that she had driven by and seen these as well.  But first, just to prove I really was in Lubbock...

Right there...  On the Corner of the Campus!!!  I was there...
The "Real Deal"

OK, talk about your Really Big Mercedes Benz Emblems...  Take a look at these "Bad Boys."  See what you think...  Ha!!!  Am I right???  Fancy Hood Ornaments...

Hood Ornaments...  Ha!!!
On Ridge Tops...

On Flat Land...

This is a Portion of the Roscoe Wind Farm

So, look at the Map I posted last week and notice the route we took to Lubbock.  Now, look at the 2nd Map of the locations of the Wind Farms in Texas.  You'll notice just past Abilene, which we drove through, a CLUSTER of Wind Farms begins.  Holy Smokes, do they ever!!!  We literally drove for miles and miles and miles and more miles and saw these Huge Mercedes Benz Emblems slowly, but constantly turning.

Our Driving Route To & From Lubbock

Notice the Dots between Abilene and Lubbock (Black Dots = Existing)

Now, you see why we saw so many...  And you thought I was exaggerating, huh???  According to Wikipedia, Texas produces the most Wind Power of any U.S. State.  Wind Power accounted for 9.2% of the electricity generated in Texas in 2012.

Wind Resource areas in Texas are located in the Texas Panhandle, where we saw them, South of Galveston (huh??? their words, not mine...  seems to me that would be directly in the water, but who am I to question their stats???), and also in the mountain & ridge tops of the Trans Pecos region.

The largest Wind Farm belongs to Roscoe Wind Farm.  They have 627 Wind Turbines that can power more than 250,000 Texan Homes.  The second largest belongs to Horse Hollow Wind Energy.  They have 421 Wind Turbines spread over 47,000 acres.  Both of these Farms were in the area that we drove through.  The list of Texas Companies goes on and on and on.  Who knew???

Takin' it "To the House"

So, last Friday, I posted my music selection and afterwards, after I published, I had a moment when I asked myself...  "What were you thinking???"  As most everybody has surely heard by now, my main man, James Gandolfini, aka Tony Soprano, died of a Heart Attack on June 19th.  For the years that it was on HBO, The Sopranos was, by far, my favorite TV Show.  So, with that said...

MusicIn honor of Tony and The Sopranos, my tune selection for this week is the Theme to The Sopranos.  Enjoy...  (source)

Market WatchHoly Smokes!!!  The Dow is feeling the heat the last couple of weeks.  But, in workmanlike order, it rebounded late in the week and closed yesterday at 15,024.  Meanwhile, Facebook is slowly inching upwards, closing yesterday at 24.66

The EndI truly appreciate you stopping by for another week of Slu's World.  I hope to see you on Tuesday for another Mix Tape.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  2. Now I know why I'm broiling here, all the wind farms are in Texas. If I head down there and stand out in one of those fields, do you think they'd cool me off? I'll even drive my Mercedes . . .

  3. Ha... Not sure about cooling you off, but the sound coming from the blade piercing the wind is kinda cool. lol

  4. I'm glad you got back safe and well mate. You sure did see some wind farms along the way :) and I wonder where'll you be sent next time round.

It was sad to hear about the death of James Gandolfini. He was so young with so much more to do and the theme was a fitting tune. But when your time is up, there is nothing anyone can do. So we must do our best in life with every second we have breath.

  5. I think there are wind farms "south of Galveston ". I remember talk of putting them offshore. People were worried about the seabirds. Anyway, glad you're back!

  6. Many, many years ago we drove from Phoenix to LA. And along the way we passed miles and miles of wind farms. It was amazing. Maybe one of these days they will be all over central and west United States where all the open land area is to help supply the energy we need. Glad you made it back safely. Also glad y'all got to spend some time with Justin and his family. Can't believe how big George is getting. He is so cute. Quite a bowler too :-)
    Love you,

    1. Yes... The "Farms" are pretty amazing as you drive by them for a long time.

It was too cool to get to see George. He called me "Papa" & Donna "Nana" as well as pointed us out and that was just too cool... It was the first time. He is a good lookin' little boy.

Thanks for stopping by, Love you back... Lil Bro

  7. Weren't they cool?! I have a gazillion of pictures of them. I don't know why. I just kept taking them. And they are so BIG. I'm glad you're back safe and sound and didn't pull any Don Quixote type shenanigans - you know - like try and go fight the wind turbines. :)

  8. Drove past all of those wind farms about 7 years ago. I think they are kind of beautiful! They should put one here in Crandall. Lord knows the wind blows day and night. It really messes with my photography!

  10. I couldn't believe the size (or the sound) of those turbines the first time I saw them. Awesome. I never compared them to the old Mercedes Benz icon though..LOL
Glad you made it back safely. There is something wonderful about being back on your own stomping grounds (and in your own bed) after a long trip. Hope all of that laundry is done.
