Oh No!!! Where???

Greetings:

So, as you read this, literally, at most any time today (that would be Friday or next Wednesday), I am seriously STUCK inside a vehicle, driving.  From start to finish, just dang near 600 Miles.  Not necessarily how I want to spend my Happy Friday or upcoming Wednesday.

First things first...  Alice Cooper said it best when he sang Schools Out:

It's June and that means School is out...  And that means it's "Summer Conference" time.  And finally, that means it's Travel Time.  Each summer, there is an annual Conference associated with my part-time job, which is School Buses and Students.  It's almost an entire week of Training Classes, Award Dinners, Banquets, Guest Speakers, Exhibit Hall Viewing & Prizes, and yes, more Classes.

Each year, the Host City is somewhere in the State of Texas.  Last year, it was in McAllen, 351 Miles from where we work.  Two years ago, it was in our backyard, Galveston, 23 Miles from where I live.  This year, it is in LUBBOCK!!!  Just under 600 Miles.  It says 8 Hours & 51 Minutes on the map.  That does not include lunch & restroom breaks:  Yikes!!!

"B" is where Lubbock would be...  If there was anything there

Yep, I'm driving, in the Company Car, almost 600 Miles today (Friday) to absolutely nowhere, to "B," where there is nothing... well, maybe some Raiders that are Red (get it?).   But, not much else.  And I will be there, at "B," through next Wednesday.  And while I'm away, Donna is OFF Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!  And she talked me into leaving her my keys to my New Ride.  Double Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!  (and Yikes!!! too)  I am so trying to smile...  It's what I'm all about:  Not So Easy Today!!!  So, it's a Short Post.  Did I say it's an "All Expense Paid Trip?"  OK, OK, I can't complain too much.  But still...  Lubbock!!!

Takin' it "To the House"

MusicThis week, I am displaying a truly Great Song, but it is indeed a very Sad Song.  The lyrics are included and they deal with a serious subject that can rip a Family apart.  I hope you'll give it a listen and think about all the Kids out there that are missing something in their lives...  From Soul Asylum, please listen to Runaway Train.  Thanks...  (source)

Market WatchYikes!!!  A really bad day for the Dow, falling yesterday some 353 points, back down to 14,758.  It did not seem to faze Facebook, however, as it stayed in its range from the last few weeks, closing at 23.90.

The EndI appreciate you dropping by this week.  Thanks!!!  Have a great weekend and I hope to see/hear from you on Mix Tape Tuesday.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Happy Friday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  3. We made the drive from Fort Worth (home base) to Lubbock last year - sort of awed by all the wind farms that seem to go on forever.

  5. Texas is BIG. (Are you surprised?) ;) Enjoy every mile - breathe, and see, and experience, and come back all the richer for what you have allowed yourself to truly see. (Who can knock gaining more fodder for future blogging posts??)

  6. I grew up just outside of Houston, but it was prior to earning my license. I never really appreciated the enormity of the state or the dread of an impending long trip through it, as I do now when you said "600 miles". Hope you have a fantastic trip, even if it is to Lubbock.

  9. Drive careful on your day home. I'm sure your new car will be just as nice as it was when you left and be ready for you to use it to take Donna out for a nice dinner date.

  11. Slu, that's a ride you won't forget in a hurry mate. Good for you for not raising the 'sick' card too. Hope this message isn't too late but I got some tips for you:

    1. Get yourself a nice large container just in case you can't find a loo. Sounds bad, but you don't want to mess up the company car through not listening to me mate. And some bog (toilet) paper. It's up to you.
    2. I know you know your tunes, so keep the rhythms going.
    3. Keep Donna occupied by ringing her every hour. She won't mind and she's off work.
    4. Keep those eyes on the road mate, you need a flask of very strong coffee.
    5. Don't pick up any strangers asking for a lift. I've seen too many scary films with this scenario.
    6. Whatever you do, make sure the satnav thing is working and you have a manual road map. Don't fancy hearing the news in London that a bloke in the US is lost :) Just think of Donna's face pleading to the viewers asking if anyone has seen you. So do the map thing.

Anyway, enough advice. Have a safe journey, and I really hope you enjoy the trip and course. Take Care mate. You'll be back before you know it.

  12. They better be serving some serious libations at these banquets and meetings you're attending....

    1. You know, they are feeding us very well. But, the "Libations" lines are of the "You are on your own" variety. So, I am in my room tonight relaxing with my own Whiskey Bottle. And it's all good. lol

Thanks so much for stopping by, Slu

  13. Oh Lordy Hell Slu - that's a trek! And no libations? But if the food's good, that absolutely makes up for it. Have a good time, learn a lot and safe travels! :)
