It's Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday (70's)

Hey Yo:

So, this week, the "Tour of the Decades" continues as we touch on the 70's.  Part 1 this week, followed by Part 2 next week.  Thanks to Jen over @ My Skewed View... as well as Co-Host, Kristi, over at Finding Ninee...  I hope you will click on their Links and see what their Mix Tapes are all about as well as the other participants too.  You will hear some amazing music as you "Rock & Roll" down "Memory Lane."

As I was making my list for this week, it being the 70's, my Wife said I would have to include some Disco!!!  I can sum up my feelings for Disco in 3 words...  There is a scene in the Movie, Stripes (1981), in which Judge Reinhold's character is wearing a sweat-shirt and it says what I think about Disco:

Could not say it any better...  But, my Wife would argue with his statement (and mine).  Ha!!!  (source)
OK, that said, and after thinking about it, I have included just one song from the 70's Disco Era for representation on my list...  But, just one.  So, let's get this party started.  I hope you have fun with this...

#1:  So, speaking of Disco, at the top of the list here, I have to include Donna Summer.  Wasn't she the "Queen of Disco?"  From 1977, I Feel Love.  Enjoy...  (source)

#2:  Since this is a 70's (or before) list, I am including a couple from 1969.  First up is a song from Smith.  Their version of Baby, It's You.  Enjoy...  (source)

#3:  Next up, again from 1969, is Neil Young.  Off of the same Album with Down by The River, here is Cowgirl in The Sand.  Enjoy...  (source)

#4:  This next one is from 1970...  I always loved the "sound" of this tune.  The Guess Who with Hand Me Down World.  Enjoy...  (source)

#5:  I just Love this next tune!!!  Joe Walsh made his presence known in many Bands.  Here, with The James Gang, also from 1970, a FAVE:  Funk #49.  Enjoy... (source)

#6:  And finally, for me, my "Walk Off Home Run."  If I'm making a 70's list, then this next tune is a MUST!!!  After all, this is my Mortal Music, my song to be played at my Funeral.  Ha!!!  Released in 1973, this is a Live Version, recorded in Oakland, in 1977.  Lynyrd Skynyrd, with their anthem, Free Bird.  Enjoy the Guitar work on display here...  (source)

Wow!!!  That was amazingly fun...  Another Mix Tape is in the books!!!  Again, I hope you'll click on some Links and check out all the other music as well.   For that, head over to Jen's @ My Skewed View...

I appreciate you stopping by and hope to see you on Happy Friday.  Til then...

Be safe, be smart, and always Smile...  It's "Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday"

adios...  vaya con dios

  1. You score major bonus points with me for adding Donna Summer. I do not discriminate when it comes to any genre in the 70's not even country, because it wasn't lame then. And Donna - that song- she's amazing.
I can't believe I never heard that Smiths version... I really like it. And of course what would the 70's be without some Joe Walsh...
Slu you rock. I love that you play along with us, it really is a blast! See you next week for part 2!

  2. When you said "Disco" I was sure you were headed toward the BeeGees. Good choice with Donna Summer.

P.S. Do you know you have Captcha on?

  4. There's very little disco I would even think of admitting that I might almost sort of like. I commend you for your avoidance of such things. Donna Summer-she deserves some love. I'll forgive you.

I'm loving how different everyone's lists are! This is too fun!

  5. I love seeing your lists because you manage to come up with songs I've never run into before. This week there's the Neil Young and Smith songs that I had the pleasure of enjoying for the first time. As a southern girl, it was mandatory to put some Skynyrd on my list as well.

  6. ah the beginnings of symmetry (as I mentioned on Mod Mom's Post...surprisingly or not, as we move up through time, I begin to see some matching of musical choices.

One of the greatest guitar hook creators, Joe Walsh! ( there are a couple of vids of him at one of the Crossroads Festivals that showcases his uncanny ability for playing just the right few notes!)

Neil was a late addition to my 'hey I like this' list, not being vocal-centric at the time the record first came out. Totally love his stuff now.
    Good sampling, dude

  9. I saw the word "disco" and thought this was going to be hard to get through.

    But no.

Great choices on the Neil Young and Guess Who. Those are good "deep tracks" and of course Skynyrd rules. I have to say that. I'm from the south.

  10. Love, love, LOVE Free Bird! it's funny--this past weekend I wanted to listen to something different with the hubs as we sat out in our garden with our Saturday night libations, so we cranked up some tunes from the late 60's. I had forgotten how much I loved The Doors and sooo many other good bands. They just don't make music like that anymore, do they?!?

  13. Just a few days ago I ws listening to Sirius Deep Tracks and they played Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and I remembered how much I played that album. Love his early stuff so much. And Guess Who, they dominated for a while. Good list. I won't comment on the disco, though DS deserved all the love.
